Getting to the middle of the Amazon

What the distance actually costs you in time, and what you can leave at home because the lodge already has it.

People ask how hard it is to get here. The honest answer is that the hard part is already behind you by the time you land in Brazil. After Manaus it is one flight, and it is the best one you will take this year.

By air, from Manaus

A charter out of Manaus to our private airstrip. About one hour and fifty minutes, over unbroken rainforest the whole way, low enough that you spend most of it looking out of the window rather than at a screen.

Most guests fly. It turns the last leg of a very long journey into something that is actually part of the trip, and it puts you at the lodge the same day.

By land, from Porto Velho

480 km on the Trans‑Amazonian Highway, around eight hours, past rivers and river towns. It is a longer day and a different kind of experience, and some people want exactly that.

We arrange it either way, and we meet you.

What you do not need to bring

The most useful packing advice for a place like this is subtraction. These are already here, and they are in the price:

  • Power and a working connection · Starlink, and it works
  • Air conditioning · in every cabin, every night
  • Hot water · private bathroom in each cabin
  • Every meal, and the bar · included, without a tab
  • Boats and engines · modern, maintained, one guide per boat

That last one matters more than it sounds. Remote does not have to mean improvised, and the difference between the two is maintenance.

What to bring

The packing list goes out with your booking confirmation, written by the team for the week you picked, because August and March are not the same trip. If you want it before you book, ask us and we will send it.

One more thing worth saying out loud: you are a long way from a paved road, and you are not a long way from a hot shower. Both of those are the point.

The hard part is already behind you.

Tell us when you can travel and we will arrange the way in, by air or by road, and meet you at the other end.
